Coldplay (boo) does another beautiful video (yay)

I’m not the world’s biggest fan of Coldplay, but you can’t fault them for total videoclip ecstacy. The video for their latest tune “Strawberry Swing” has been directed by Shynola, and features some sexy, sexy stopframe and a resolution to put most modern motion pictures to shame. And giant squirrel attacks! Thanks to Sam at LeanMean for the link via Twitter!

“I Will Glam”, first music video ever shown on teletext.

From Creative Social blog:
Pedro Marín and Great Works present: The first music video in history for Teletext on Cuatro (Channel 4), Spanish national TV, on page 899 during the last week of May and the first week of June, 2009.

To promote Pedro Marín’s new single “El día después“ Great Works developed the Teletext concept to reconnect the artist with his origins – glam rock from the 70’s. Apart from Teletext the video will also be available on “classic TV“ and online.

Awesome!

An old friend pops up…

Found a You Tube posting of my old good friend Ashley Rothschild and his band Caligula (support in Oz for Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, Pop Will Eat Itself and more ;-) ) and got me thinking about what other mates I have in video clips.

silly and indulgent, but sweet…

Think I’m going to stop now, enough of the nostalgia already…

R.I.P. the human fly. Lux Interior dies at 62

From the earliest memory of seeing a live band (in Newcastle as I was WAY too young to get into the over 18s gig in Sydney) Lux cut an energetic, truly wild and thoroughly perverse figure. Taking off his own stiletto to drink the sweat from his shoe, I have to say I was mesmerised, hooked and slightly grossed out. That someone was so good at transgressing the boundaries of taste, gender and genre, and of writing and performing some of the most brilliant tracks of all time, still blows me away. A few years back when performing in London, he was bouncing around mostly naked like the best of them and I thought – that’s Iggy Pop, but even more so.

Love you Lux. Thanks for totally messing with my head. I wouldn’t have been 14+ in the same way without you.

Life is short, filled with stuff, don’t know what for, I ain’t had enough
— the Cramps, New Kind of Kick.

8-Bit Jesus for Christmas

Some things are just too good not to harp on about, and Dr Octoroc’s crazy album of game-soundtrack-inspired-christmas-carols is one of them. Download it for free – listed to it back-to-back at least once and hoard it in iTunes for next year ;-)

Augment your ears with RjDj

This brilliant new iPhone app takes recordings and sensory data from your live environment, and uses them to create a live soundtrack to your day…

Up the Resolution!

Finally got a chance to watch this yesterday, from the Creative Review blog. The new music video for The Cinematic Orchestra (covering not one, but two tracks – Breathe and To Build a Home).

Sit through the first little bit (I thought it was just a tad cheesy with all the flicking through photographs at first) and its SO worthwhile. Really packs a punch so low I had I lump in my throat for the rest of the day.

Wow. Awesome.

Favourite Bestival acts I’d never really been into…

Chrome Hoof

Ebony Bones

Other stuff that was brilliant:
The Foals, Human League (bizarrely), My Bloody Valentine, Hot Chip, the sound of grace Jones from my tent, the learn-to-dance tent and so much more…

What wasn’t:
the mud…

What a great album title this is…

Wonder what it sounds like?

The more you ignore me, the closer I get…

I’ve been trying to NOT mention Blip.fm all day, but those of you who follow my twitter will have noticed something rather disturbing – I’M TOTALLY ADDICTED TO IT. Actually, that’s one of the annoying things about it – like, how do you turn the thing off once its all linked up to your other social networks? I’m sure everyone is sick of my greatest hits already (after spending 2 hrs just playing around with it last night) – oh, but hang on, most of the self-same people are equally as hooked… Phew… Actually, I haven’t blipped a song for a good 5 hrs or so now… best get to it…
